A Submariner clone is judged on its bezel and its proportions. The 120-click unidirectional Cerachrom bezel should turn with a single, dead-precise action — no back-play, no mushiness. The maxi-dial hour markers and Mercedes hands have to sit at the right height, and the cyclops over the date needs the genuine 2.5x magnification that cheap clones never quite reach.
How to spot a quality Submariner clone
- Bezel action: a crisp 120-click turn with no wobble; cheap clones feel gritty or under-clicked.
- Cyclops magnification: the real date magnifies 2.5x — weak clones magnify far less.
- Ceramic bezel insert: glossy, with platinum-filled engraving on the LN, not painted markings.
- Lume: the Chromalight should glow blue and even; green or patchy lume is a tell.
- Case proportions: the 41mm lug-to-lug and crown guards must match — a fraction off reads instantly as wrong.
