An independent take on Rolex super clones

An independent field guide to super clone watches — brand by brand, reference by reference.

The Superlative exists for one reason: most information about Rolex super clones is written by people trying to sell you something, and almost none of it is specific. We take the opposite approach — reference by reference, movement by movement, with the actual tells that separate a quality clone from a cheap one.

Everything here is hands-on. We open watches, photograph them, compare them against genuine references, and note where each factory does its best and worst work. The goal is simple: that you know exactly what you are buying before you buy it.

How we test

  • We judge a clone against the specific genuine reference — not a generic idea of 'a Rolex'.
  • The movement comes first: sub-dial layout, GMT behaviour, sweep and reserve.
  • Then the details the eye checks — cyclops magnification, bezel action, dial printing, weight.
  • We name the factory, because the factory matters as much as the reference.

The editor

Avaa Smith

Avaa Smith has spent the better part of a decade photographing, opening and comparing Rolex references against their super clone counterparts. The Superlative is where those notes live — independent, hands-on, and unaffiliated with Rolex or any manufacturer.
